No, SPARCS is designed for population health analytics and not for individual patient identification or outreach. As a result, direct patient identifiers are not permitted to be released.
While patient name is a required field for SPARCS facilities to provide when submitting discharge data, it is kept separate from the data that is used for extracts as part of the SPARCS Release program. Social Security Number is not a required field for submitters and is kept in a similar segregated area from the rest of the SPARCS data.
Neither field can be released in its entirety as part of a SPARCS extract. Portions of the name and SSN are used only to generate the Unique Personal Identifier (UPI) that can be included in some SPARCS extracts if approved.
